Chaa Creek Eco Lodge

Arrive into Belize International airport and transfer 2hrs to your rainforest lodge in the Cayo District of Belize – the famous Eco-Lodge of Chaa Creek. Upon arrival at the lodge get settled in your room and start off your adventure with a night hike in the surrounding rainforest to see nocturnal animals of the area. Dinner is included at the lodge.

Chaa Creek (Eco Lodge)

Located in the central Cayo district of Belize, Chaa Creek is a private 365 acre nature reserve set along the banks of the Rio Macal River in the foothills of the Maya Mountains. It offers a variety of luxury accommodations and has a top restaurant, bar and Spa on the large, landscaped grounds. The lodge is famous for its medicinal plant trail and the unique Natural History Centre that they set up. The owners of the lodge are strong advocates and practitioners of sustainable tourism and the lodge has won many eco-tourism awards as well as being benchmarked by Green Globe. The owners of Chaa Creek live and work on the property and are dedicated to sustainable tourism. They were the pioneers of sustainable tourism in Belize and are great promoters and supporters of the cause.

Chaa Creek has been awarded many eco-tourism accolades over the years and are currently benchmarked by the Green Glove international certification process
They have a foundation which they use to support local conservation and community work – the Belize Foundation for Conservation. Its mission is to promote environmental education, cultural awareness and sustainable conservation practices throughout Belize.
Their goal is “to establish a model of low-impact, sustainable development. By stimulating interest in the environment, natural history and local culture we hope to demonstrate the long term benfits of ecotourism over other environmentally damaging options for development”
Their staff of over 100 full time employees is entirely made up from people from the local communities

Howler Monkey reintroduction in partnership with the Yerkes Primate Institute & Foundation for Wildlife Conservation
Birds without Borders – neotropical migratory bird research in partnership with the Zoological Society of Milwaukee
Vascular Plant Cataloging & Agrofoestry Research in partnership with New York Botanical Gardens
Archaeolgy Research – continuing research on the 70 sites conained within the Chaa Creek Nature Reserve

COMMUNITY ACTION POSSIBILITIES:

Helping the nearby village Cristo Rey with educational materials and training, like computers and building additions to their existing schools.
Working on ongoing projects being supported by the Chaa Creek foundation as well BFC (Belize Foundation for Conservation).

Victoria House

Transfer to Victoria House Beach Hotel – Cave Tubing at Jaguar Paw

Transfer by land to Belize Municipal Airport. Along the way stop at the famous cave tubing area of Jaguar Paw for a fun cave tubing adventure down Caves Branch river through the rainforest and cave systems of the area. Transfer on to Belize Municipal airport for a flight across to Ambergris Caye (Island) and transfer to Victoria House hotel.

Having recyclable 5 gallon bottles of purified water available for guest use in the dining room and bar, with individual bottles available on request.
Villas at Victoria House all have recyclable 5 gallon water containers in kitchens
Collection of rainwater to minimize use of locally produced row water.

Victoria House

Catamaran Sailing & Snorkel Tour

Today guests take part in the collective sailing and snorkeling tour by Catamaran. The tour takes guests to 3 snorkel spots including the Hol Chan Marine Reserve and the famous Shark Ray alley where guests can swim with the harmless sharks and rays. There is also time to explore the neighboring island of Caye Caulker where guests can have lunch (not included) before returning back to San Pedro and to your hotel.

Xunantunich & San Ignacio

This morning explore the Cayo area & transfer to the impressive Mayan ruins of Xunantunich where we will have a private guided tour of the site. After our tour we transfer into the traditional town of San Ignacio where lunch is provided and there is time to explore before transferring back to the hotel for a free afternoon where guests can enjoy many of the on site activities such as horse riding, biking, canoeing or perhaps a visit to the medicinal trail or natural history centre.

Cave & Jungle Adventure

Enjoy an adventurous cave / river trip to see ancient Mayan ritual sites where artifacts remain. Choose between Barton Creek where you canoe through the cave or Actun Tunichil Muknal for a more strenuous & adventurous jungle & cave trip with a surprise at the end! The Actun Tunichil Muknal trip is only for active people with a sense of adventure.

Caracol Maya Archaeology Site & the Mountain Pine Ridge

Travel today to through the protected area of the Mountain Pine Ridge and down into the national park of the Chicquibal Rainforest reserve. Enjoy the changing scenery and variation of eco-systems as you arrive to the Caracol Maya archaeology site, the largest archaeology site in Belize. Here guests enjoy a guided tour of this fascinating and beautiful site with its huge central temple Caana rises over 140 feet above the canopy floor offering wonderful views of the surrounding site and rainforest location. After a tour of the site and a picnic lunch guests can explore the Rio Frio Cave and Rio On Pools before heading back to the lodge.
