Beneficiary:
The Guarani Indian Tribe
The Guarani live in Brazil, Argentina,
Paraguay and Bolivia. They are one of the largest tribes
in Brazil with a population over 35,000. Much of their
land has been stolen from them and many communities
can no longer sustain themselves on tiny patches of
land. This crisis has driven over 300 Gurani, mainly
adolescent to kill themselves. The Guarani have one of
the highest suicide rates in the world. They are a deeply
spiritual people, who believe they were the first people
to be created by the 'great father', Ñande-Ru.
The cacique, religious leader, is highly important in
the community. For the Guarani the terra sem mal, or
'land without evil', is the resting place of the soul
after death. It is essential for the soul to arrive
there so it can rest peacefully.
We support the Guarani Tribe through the
Survival Project, an International organization supporting
tribal peoples worldwide.
