(Cheetah
Conservation Botswana)
Cheetah
Conservation Botswana (CCB) was formed to help protect
the remaining population of endangered cheetahs in Botswana,
one of the last strongholds for cheetahs in the world.
And with the spirit of collaboration and community participation,
CCB has also created an opportunity to join the effort
to protect cheetahs in all of Southern Africa, helping
to create trans-border management strategies and managing
the southern population as a whole. The first step,
led by conservationist Rebecca Klein, is to learn more
about the Botswana cheetah (Acinonyx jubatus) and how
to protect this very fast, very rare cat.
By collaborating
with other cheetah conservation organizations and individuals,
CCB has learned which methods are most effective and
how to bridge the gap between the interests of the cheetah
and humans. Rebecca Klein and the CCB staff spent time
at Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia and gained invaluable
experience in the various aspects of a successful cheetah
conservation program.
CCB is based
at the Mokolodi Nature Reserve near Gabarone, Botswana.
A staff of 70 people, most from the surrounding villages,
engage in conservation, habitat preservation, research,
environmental education for local people and visitors,
and sustainable use of wildlife and other natural resources.
World Community Counselling Centre
WCCC,
an acronym for World Community Counselling Centre, is
a non-governmental organization, fully and legally registered
in Botswana as a society. Our intention is to run a
focused, comprehensive community care and support programs
to assist and counsel, deliver quality care and service
for the terminally ill, street children, abuse children
and orphans in general through establishment and advocacy
of strategic socio economic programs in Oodi.
WCCC exists
to provide and deliver quality care and service for
the terminally ill and orphans and vulnerable and to
offer support to care givers.
The World Community
Counselling Centre focuses to promoting effective healthcare
programs through developing sound practices in matters
related to early childhood development, health, sexual
health, and reproductive health, diet, and nutrition,
use of medicines, hygiene, and life skills. That will
make children generally better prepared to protect themselves
from placing their lives at risk. The package of services
offered by WCCC includes provision of basic services
and counselling for children and their care-givers as
well as community outreaches and education. It recognizes
the existing gaps in the current services which focus
more on providing materials needs such as food and clothing
and lack important services such as counselling, mentoring
and empowerment.
