Ecuador & the Galapagos Islands

The mission of the Rainforest Alliance is to protect ecosystems and the people and wildlife that depend on them by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior.

At the Rainforest Alliance, we believe that the key to ensuring long and healthy lives for people, for wildlife and for the planet is by establishing sustainable ways of working the land. In over 50 countries around the world, we are collaborating with farmers, workers, business leaders, NGO's, governments, scientists and local communities to develop and implement standards that are socially and environmentally responsible, as well as economically viable.

The mission of the Yachana Foundation is to find sustainable solutions that will contribute to reversing the spiral of impoverishment and environmental degradation that is ravaging the people and tropical forests of the Ecuadorian Amazon.  We believe the wellbeing of the Amazon’s inhabitants and the future of the rainforest are inextricably linked. Therefore, we are simultaneously conserving the rainforest and helping its people with a range of integrated sustainable development and conservation projects.

We are currently implementing education, micro-enterprise, and conservation projects in Ecuador’s Napo, Orellana and Sucumbios Provinces. These projects are raising the standard of living, promoting the sustainable use of resources and providing viable economic alternatives to logging, cattle ranching, and the production of illicit crops.
