Elevate Haiti: Two Week Volunteer Trip: Logistics Work: You are able to choose to do construction work full-time, education work full-time or a bit of both. Construction is extremely physically demanding work. In addition to the physical component of the work, on the ground conditions are extremely hot: work takes place under the burning Haitian sun. We ask that you realistically assess your physical strength, abilities and endurance before planning a trip to help with the construction work. For the education work we will work with you at your ability. Experience teaching is helpful. We do encourage all volunteers to at least assist in the classroom to bond with the kids. Accommodation: Two versions of this service trip are available: An upgraded version of the trip is also available. This package includes all meals, and accommodations at a nearby hotel. Transportation to and from the hotel and site is included. Hotels: Le Plaza Hotel, Port-au-Prince: Hotel de L’Amitie, Jacmel: Food: Volunteers will be provided with three meals a day — a simple breakfast of bread, peanut butter, fruit and coffee; and lunch and dinner meals of, usually, rice and beans with a sauce. Any other food meals will be the responsibility of the volunteer. There are grocery stores in Port-au-Prince and Jacmel where volunteers can purchase food and drinks. Clean drinking water will be provided to all volunteers. Transportation: Transport for the group to and from all scheduled activities is included. Precautions: Because of the working and living conditions, all volunteers are required to have an updated tetanus vaccine. All volunteers must purchase medical travel insurance, including emergency medical evacuation coverage. We recommend that all volunteers take prophylactic malaria medication. Every volunteer or group of volunteers should also travel with their own first aid kit. Up-to-date hepatitis and typhoid vaccines are recommended. Pack all prescription medications in your carry-on.
