In spite of growth and implied prosperity, India remains a place of widespread poverty.  It has a high level of illiteracy, malnutrition and environmental exploitation.  

One quarter of the country’s population earns less than 15-20 rupees per day (US 50 Cents). In Mysore, 19% of the population lives below the poverty line and nearly 10% live in slums. In Mysore, MAD works with orphaned children and the disadvantaged to help empower them to more fulfilling lives.

Service Opportunities:

As a volunteer you can help with the following activities:

• Conduct a workshop on sanitation
• Promote prevention of HIV/AIDS and Malaria
• Care for the environment
• Help children learn to read 
• Teach games and sports
• Work on micro loans and launch small businesses for women
• Garden so orphaned children have fresh vegetables and fruit
• Repair bunk beds and desks and paint
• Build a small library
• Teach the children about music, art or drama
• Film projects and help obtain support.
