In spite of growth and implied prosperity, India remains a place of widespread poverty. It has a high level of illiteracy, malnutrition and environmental exploitation.
One quarter of the country’s population earns less than 15-20 rupees per day (US 50 Cents). In Mysore, 19% of the population lives below the poverty line and nearly 10% live in slums. In Mysore, MAD works with orphaned children and the disadvantaged to help empower them to more fulfilling lives.
Service Opportunities:
As a volunteer you can help with the following activities:
- Conduct a workshop on sanitation
- Promote prevention of HIV/AIDS and Malaria
- Care for the environment
- Help children learn to read
- Teach games and sports
- Work on micro loans and launch small businesses for women
- Garden so orphaned children have fresh vegetables and fruit
- Repair bunk beds and desks and paint
- Build a small library
- Teach the children about music, art or drama
- Film projects and help obtain support.
