Romance of the South SeasBook now! 11 days – Bora Bora, Moorea, Tikehau Cost upon request Beneficiary: Te Pu Atitia This partially guided romance holiday starts with a relaxing stay at the amazing Thalasso Spa eco-resort on the magical island of Bora Bora. After three days of getting down to island time and exploring this wonderful place you will move to Moorea for 3 days of fully guided excursions. Here you will learn about the nature and culture of these fascinating islands and meet locals who are working on conservation and cultural programs. Finally you will move to the atoll of Tikehau and spend three days relaxing and exploring this remote and spectacular island.
Romance of the South SeasBook Now! Day 5 Moorea Intercontinental Resort and Spa In the morning you will catch a transfer back to the airport and a flight to Moorea. You will be met by your guide at the airport and after checking into the hotel there will be time for a swim before lunch. This afternoon you will begin our special program of excursions in order to introduce you to the natural and cultural worlds of the islands with a visit to the UC Berkeley Gump Research Station to see what sort of scientific research is being conducted here. You will be then be hosted by a local non-profit group at the Atitia Cultural Center to talk about traditional Polynesian knowledge. The afternoon will wrap up with drinks and local appetizers hosted at the cultural center Your hotel is located on the spectacular north west corner of Moorea. The rooms are well appointed and the Beach Bungalow that we use for this trip opens on to a sandy lagoon beach. The hotel has its own sea turtle rescue operation and supports programs in marine education. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch Day 6 Moorea Intercontinental Resort and Spa Today will be spent exploring the lagoon, the coral reef, and reef islands of Moorea. In the morning while the wind is still calm we will set out to look for spinner dolphins and humpback whales that are often found in the lagoon and near-shore waters (whales are here late-July to early November). After this we will stop to snorkel in the lagoon in a spot where it is easy to observe fish, rays, and reef sharks. By mid-day we will find our way to a reef island (motu) where we will stop for a picnic. While here we will talk about how these beautiful little islands form and take some time to look at vegetation and birds as well as get some more snorkeling in. Then it is back to the hotel in time for happy hour. Meals Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Day 7 Moorea Intercontinental Resort and Spa This morning we will head up into Opunohu Valley to investigate the remains of an ancient village and look for endemic birds. We will take in the spectacular view at the Belvedere and talk about the geology of the island before descending into the forest to look at archaeological sites. At the end of the morning we will visit the Kellum Gardens, meet Mari Mari Kellum, and while enjoying a picnic lunch we will hear her stories of growing up on Moorea. Day 8-10 Tikehau Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort You will be moving this morning, first from Moorea to Tahiti, and then on to the atoll of Tikehau. You will check into our hotel, enjoy a lunch, and then settle in to this spectacular island setting. Tikehau is one of the great atolls of the Tuamotu Archipelago. There are very few people here and the landscape is dominated by the marine realm, and small isolated islets. There are great optional activities to explore, or just take a kayak and paddle off to secluded islets all your own. This resort hotel is the most luxurious in the Tuamotu Archipelago and it really captures the feeling of this remote and spectacular place. The service here is wonderful and the hotel is just a short paddle or swim from miles and miles of reef and islets. Day 11 Intercontinental Hotel - Departure After lunch today you will fly back to Tahiti and check into a hotel for the afternoon and evening. There would be time for a bit of last minute shopping in Papeete, or you can spend the afternoon soaking up the views and atmosphere of Tahiti.
